Grief expression and masculinity in recent times have become strangers. It was certainly true for me. In my coming-of-age years no man or boy could afford a tear in his eye for fear of ridicule. I have come to learn that the healthy expression of grief is a skill; a warrior skill, as important as wielding a sword. Good mental health, good physical health, and the skill of a grief tending in community go together. It’s a joy making activity.
